Workit Wednesday 008: A.Eye Wear Deepfake Glasses

In today’s Workit Wednesday speed run I dip my toe in a Black Mirror’esque future.

Let’s look at the cards I pulled this week.

Archetype = Advertisement
Object = Glasses
Action = Deepfake
Attribute = Forbidden
Tone = Crowd Funded

This was a pretty fast and easy one for me to whip up and I’m pleased at the provocations it conjures. There were so many things I wanted to incorporate into this ad to help express what these glasses might be used for. In the end I decided to just leave it as is, because I think the questions it poses when interrogated summon dark and delightful imaginaries.

Some that came to my mind include a use case where people who are easily intimidated can alter the appearance of good looking strangers to make them more approachable. Or change the face of a random person to resemble a lost loved one that you can once-again interact with, or even have a conversation with. With this type of technology in the wild, how much would society participate in role-playing activities?

Anyway, fun weird sci-fi storytelling ideas could emerge from this artifact.

Thank you for reading Design Fiction Daily. This post is public so consider sharing it with someone you think might enjoy a quick and quirky trip into the future.
