I stood out like a sore thumb sitting in front of the wheel of the janky time machine. Not only because I was actively driving, but everyone was fascinated by the wheel. People kept approaching me, asking to try giving it a twist and turn for themselves. In this timeline the closest people ever saw this archaic mechanical navigation device was in Leno’s Museum of Steering Wheels down in Gary Indiana.
Someone even yelled a profanity at me, calling me some kind of threat to safety reminding me that some right-to-drive legislation had been abolished. Not gonna lie, I see his point. It was hard to keep up with the chaotic weaving and zigzagging of all the robot vehicles and follower droids.
I’ll be glad when I find a turnoff to the nearest wormhole to I can return to my primeline and enjoy some hands-on cruising.
The artefact in the header above was taken from an ambitious Design Fiction project, in the form of a 72 page magazine from the future, created by Near Future Laboratory’s Julian Bleecker, No Media Co.’s Patrick Pittman and me, Dré Labre.
This magazine looks incredible! Is it for purchase online, or available to read digitally? I love the AWS/PS label on the front. Took me a moment to realize it was just another Design Fiction element!
