I’m in Saskatoon this week presenting on Design Fiction and AI at the X-Camp conference. I figured I would keep testing my design fiction generator GPT and explore the future of camping.
Just snagged the latest in outdoor gear from the "Go-Flexi" series. It's the Flexi-Tent, featuring ultra-thin nanofiber technology that adjusts opacity and insulation based on external temperatures and light levels—a real smarty-tent! The user manual is printed on durable, waterproof, biodegradable material. Each page is embedded with smart ink diagrams that animate when touched, showing you how to pitch the tent in various configurations. What caught my attention was the "Eco-Setup" mode, specifically designed to minimize environmental impact, using localized weather data to adjust the tent's footprint to avoid disrupting the ground flora.
Check out the safety section—there’s a tongue-in-cheek warning against using the tent's auto-tint feature for prolonged indoor use, joking that excessive indoor camping might lead to "Severe Nature Deficit Disorder."
