This week has been bustling for this time-travel blogger. I had the opportunity to dive into the realms of design fiction and AI at the FITC conference, where I presented on AI in filmmaking. My presentation kicked off with an exploration of AC/DC, which stands for Active Commitment to Daily Creation—a term coined by my pal
.In the opening slides, I emphasized the significance of integrating futures thinking, design, and creative direction, all enhanced by artificial intelligence. This daily ritual is compact yet powerful, consistently enriching my understanding and refining my theory and practice. Two sides of the same coin that I am repeatedly flipping, each flip increasing its value.
I showed a film-related design fiction example, from December of 2022, AI Artist Data Model, created during the height of the 🚫AI movement on ArtStation. My question was, “what might a fair and equitable AI future look like for artists?”. Today it continues to stand as a relevant provocation. I am not proposing an answer here, I am posing a question designed to beget more questions.
I like that AC/DC abbreviation, and I try to live it myself.
